Club Night 4th April 2019
Topic: “Medieval Water Management”
Led by: Richard Cushing
Richard’s short talk concentrated on the idea that many observable features in our landscape are related to human attempts to control the flow of water. He reviewed why water needed to be managed from the earliest of times and discussed how it was achieved in medieval times and the historical evidence. Examination of Lidar maps (see link for an explanation) can reveal ancient waterways and explains patterns of settlement in the past.
Also on display were finds from the recent test pits at IVC and recent field walking and there was another chance to look at and discuss the posters from the HIAG Open Day.
Twelve members attended the evening.
